Pearl Cove Library is holding its
first Human Living Library event
to celebrate International Women’s Day
2020.

Originating in Copenhagen in 2000 and
now a worldwide movement The Human Library creates a safe space for dialog
where topics are discussed openly between human books and their readers.
Meet our Books:
1. Dr
Susan Carland – a
lecturer and researcher at Monash University’s National Centre for Australian
Studies. Her expertise is in gender,
sociology, contemporary Australia, terrorism, and Islam in the modern world.
2. Tania
Major – became the
2007 Young Australian of the Year for drawing attention to domestic violence in
the Indigenous community.
3. Amy – Suffers from bipolar. She will discuss how she lives with her
condition, what she does to manager her mood swings. The ramifications of thoughts of self harm
and suicide. Talks about how her disease
affects her relationships with others.
4. Kerry – A homeless woman living on the
streets of Sydney. She is a regular
visitor of the Wayside Chapel where she has hot meals and participates in the
gardening classes held on it’s rooftop vegetable garden.
5. Claire – A local woman who has been a widow
for the past couple of years talks about grief, her new normal and her adult
children. She discusses how their family
dynamics have changed and how she feels about new relationships.

Bookings are essential as spaces are
limited.
Also meet Rochelle from Share the
Dignity, where she will talk about how the Charity came about and share
information on what they do. Pearl
Cove Library will have a charity bin at the desk from 2-7 March to collect
sanitary items for Share the Dignity.
