"We Care!" A Pearl Cove Library Community Event

We Care! – NSW Carers Week Living Library

A Pearl Cove Library Community Event

Where and When:
Date 13th October, 2020 @7PM – Pearl Cove Library, Option 2 Room
Refreshments provided. Accessible event for people with all types of abilities.

What:
This month, Pearl Cove Library will have the honor of hosting Human Living Libraries for the event “We Care! – NSW Carers Week Living Library.” Human Living Libraries are a free community resource that educate the public on marginalised populations.

The Human Living Library has a collection of people who offer their expertise in various areas of the human experience. These people are called “books” at the Human Living Library. The purpose of people “checking out” the “books” at the Human Living Library is to expand knowledge on these subjects.

This year, as part of Pearl Cove Library's Human Living Library Event, we will be honoring and  hosting NSW Carers. This is a NSW Carers Week event. Pearl Cove Library is honored to host a variety of carers with varying experiences they will share with the community.
 Why:
This event provides the opportunity for attendees to meet with these carers on an individual basis. Attendees will be able to ask questions and learn about what they do. The aim of this is to lead communities into being a more educated, empathetic and understanding society through the power of stories.
 Who:
The following carers will be participating in this rare event:
  1. A single mother and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) carer who cares for her physically disabled toddler aged-son.
  2. An unemployed person who provides 24 hour around the clock care for her parent that suffers from a terminal illness.
  3. A non-profit worker that works with carers in the community
  4. Dianne Brooks, an indigenous carer who looks after her elderly parent

Carers are an important group that give their time and energy to caring for loved ones. These loved ones in which hey care for can have physical and mental disabilities, chronic or temporary disease and challenges with older age.
How:
It should be noted that this service is free and is provided in conjunction with the Human Living LibraryAustralia non-profit organization.

Other groups involved in the event are the Pearl Cove Council Event Unit, the Department of Families and Community services and the Pearl Cove Neighborhood Centre.
