International Literacy Day: Read and Write; You'll Be Alright!

Promoting Literacy at Pearl Cove Library, One Letter at a Time

This September, Pearl Cove Library is excited to host our first Human Living Library event, this year supporting International Literacy Day. Allowing our library members the opportunity to "borrow" volunteers, you can have the opportunity to talk to four human "books" on their experiences regarding the importance of literacy in their everyday lives.

International Literacy Day is celebrated to shed light on global literacy needs, with the mission of basic literacy for everyone and everywhere.

Come join us for an afternoon at Pearl Cove Library to celebrate literacy everywhere! Light refreshments will be provided for all guests.

Meet our books!

Suzy Wilson - Founder of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF)

In 2010 Suzy was awarded the Dromkeen Award for her efforts in 'being a catalyst in changing children's lives through literature’.

Amanda Fotheringham - Local Indigenous-Australian English high school teacher

Aisyah Farrar - Pakistani refugee

David Marlow - Displaced person now working for Mission Australia advocating the need for literacy to succeed
