"The New Normal" : dealing with and embracing life after loss .... loss of independence, job, a loved one, Country, home, child, freedom, identity.
Saturday 22nd August 2020
1:00pm until 4:00pm
This Saturday
falls between
18th August: Never Give Up Day and 30th August: National Grief Awareness Day
This event is the first in a planned series of Human Living Libraries events to provide opportunities for community members to connect with each other - hearing other people's stories can help build bridges of understanding across demographic and cultural groups and will help to strengthen our Pearl Cove community.
Human Living
Libraries is a concept where people ("the books"), who are willing to
share their personal stories and life experiences, come together in a safe
place with "borrowers/readers", who want to hear their stories, ask questions
and engage in conversations with them that they may not be able to do in a
different environment.
- an adult refugee who lost their freedom and their homeland
- an adult who has lost a loved one or child
- a person who has lost their home and all their family possessions in a fire
- an Indigenous elder talking about loss of Country, heritage and cultural identity
- an adult with an acquired physical injury who has lost their independence after a debilitating accident
- a person who has experienced the loss of their job and family's income
- an adult who has lost the ability to care for themselves at home
- an adult who is experiencing the loss of their sight or hearing
Your feedback at the end of the event will help us plan for the next in this series:
"The New Normal": dealing with and embracing life after....... (insert one of life's big challenges for each event in the series)
*change (retirement, relocation) *a breakdown (relationship, mental health) *a big decision (drug taking, suicide attempt) * a revelation (adoption discovery, coming out as LGBTIQ) *a diagnosis (cancer, degenerative disease, autism, dementia)
