Sustainable Communities: The Australian Aboriginal Example
A special day to acknowledge the relationship between human needs and the natural environment
A Living Library Event
Where everyone has a story to share
Just like any normal library, books will be available to borrow, engage with and learn from.
Except the Books, in this instance, will be real people with a unique personal experience or perspective that they will generously share with Readers.
Aboriginal societies have continuously survived for some five millennia, without destroying their resource base and while maintaining their cultural traditions. This is certainly a testimony of their sustainability. It doesn’t mean that we should all adopt their way of life, but we can learnt much about the management of the land and its coastlines from them. Lessons of sustainability learn ed and honed through thousands of years of cultural evolution on the Australian continent are available for us.
To celebrate World Environment Day 2019, Pearl Cove library is hosting a human living library event, featuring human books from different cultures that you can choose to talk with. Just like a book, these humans will be available to be borrowed for a 15 minute session and you as a “reader” have the opportunity to share their life experience and stories, ask questions freely, get honest answers in return, and learn lots from them.
