How nutrition shapes our cultural culinary customs

What is teff? Do fingerlimes grow on trees? Come to our Human Living Libraries event to learn about cuisines of the world and have a taste of munch-able multiculturalism.

Human Living Libraries is the concept of placing people in the capacity of resource, just like a book and offers living, and lived, personal experiences from individuals to convey knowledge. Everyone has stories to tell. Come and learn about foods from around the world, from the people who cook them!

Event Description
Ever wanted to experience human living libraries? Well now’s the chance to have an unforgettable experience during International Men’s Health Week where we will be exploring men’s health through the people in our community. This event will enable us to learn and better understand what men deal with as we listen to people of experience coming from all walks of life. Whether it be from a traumatic childhood or an adult currently dealing with a lifelong disorder, these living books will help give us insight into what it’s like to live with their conditions. This will be a catered event with plenty of food and drink for everyone (we cannot serve any alcohol at this event).

Date: Saturday 16th June 2018
Time: 10 am – 4 pm
Venue: Pearl Cove Public Library
Tickets: $12.50 per person

Who Can Attend?
Men and women are both welcome to the event. The event may not be suitable for children under the age of 12 as some living books may have confronting stories.

Make a Booking
Come and be educated by our event for only $12.50 per person! Tickets will be sold online on the library’s website, or you can come in person to the front desk at Pearl Cove Library and buy your tickets there. Bookings will be available till Wednesday the 13th of June. Upon booking, if you have any special dietary requirements, please fill out the necessary information.

Christmas around the World

It is fast approaching that time of year again, a time where people, friends, family and strangers come together to celebrate, share stories and eat wonderful food! Christmas is here, and among the destinations on Santa's list is Pearl Cove Library. 

 Christmas around the world will feature guest speakers and living books from Aboriginal, Jamaican, Greek and Portuguese backgrounds to share how they celebrate Christmas in their own unique and sacred ways. There will be Christmas themed catering from many cultures around the world, children's jungle gym play-hire for the kids to enjoy, Christmas music and a Christmas movie played for everyone to enjoy.

All are welcome.

Catering will provide friendly options for Vegetarians, people with intolerance's and allergies. Food provided will have check-sheets explaining their contents and suitability for various consumers.

Howzat! Celebrating Australian sport

Do you love playing sport? Watching sport? Cheering on our athletes as they take on the best the world has to offer? Supporting kids as they have fun on the sporting field?
This event is for you!
Pearl Cove Library is holding a free event to celebrate Australian sport as well as the sport in the Pearl Cove local area. The library will have special national, state and local sporting figures in our Human living library. There will be talks, stories, yarns and of course fun. There will also be promotion of books, DVD’s and other library resources on sport and sporting stories. 
Plus great snacks and drinks.
Come in and let’s celebrate sport in this country!

Then come and meet the members of our community who have volunteered to be our "Human Living Library Books" for the day and find out how and when the New Year is celebrated in other countries and religions. Each volunteer will be supplying food from their own culture, making this a yummy day as well as an informative one.
