The aim of National Families Week is to celebrate the vital role that families play in Australian society.

National Families Week is a time to celebrate with your family, make contact with your extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. It is a time to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family life.

Let’s take the time to reflect on the critical role that families play in teaching, supporting and nurturing children especially as they grow.

Pearl Cove Library is celebrating International Day of Families by hosting a Living Libraries event - come and talk to and experience what its like to grow up in a family a bit different to yours- speakers will include families with gay parents, foster parents, multi-generational families living under one roof and a survivor of the stolen generation. Celebrate the importance  and diversity of what family means at Pearl Cove Library.

Dry July – Addiction and its Reach

Come along to Pearl Cove Library where will be hosting a Human Living Library discussing addiction and also the reaching the effects on friends and family. Speakers will come who will be “living books” allowing people to ask questions and hear about how addiction has affected their life and the lives of those around them.

“The Human Library™ is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. The Human Library is a place where real people are on loan to readers. A place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered.”
