Pearl Cove library event: R U OK? DAY

Pearl Cove Library is holding its R U OK? human library event!

  Source from http://www.gocatalyst.org/human-book-application

                               What is a human library?

Human Library is a library of people, it replaces books with human beings. The concept might be new here but the first human library started in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2000. It is an international organization that aims to challenge prejudice against social contact among people. The Human Living Library works just like a normal library: visitors can browse the catalogue for the available titles, choose the book they want to read, and borrow it for a limited period of time. The only difference is that the books are all human volunteers who have opted to speak about their experiences openly to an interested audience and answer any questions they are asked.

For further information please visit: https://www.humanlibraryaus.org/

We will be hosting a ‘Human Library’ event for people to tell their stories and educate the community on the importance of mental health. The ‘books’ will share their story with participants. It is an opportunity to spread knowledge, share experiences and let readers to understand themselves and their familiar fields. They are indigenous Australian group, social support group, professional experts from Community Health.

If you're unable to make the event, R U OK? encourage you to register at https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day to receive a recording of the event.

Human Living Library-Understanding Books

To celebrate Literacy Week 2021, Pearl Cove Library is presenting:

Human Living Library

for Young Adults and Parents

The human living library is a new concept to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge social stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. You will have the opportunity to dialogue with people that you do not normally meet and speak about sensitive topics (ethnicity, religion, mental health, disability, etc.) in a safe and secure place.

This event is to help the community to achieve better understanding, inspiring others and create positive outcomes as individuals and as groups.

You may “borrow” the Human Books on loan for story and dialogue concerning the book’s experience of discrimination and stereotype with a simple rule, open dialogue and respect, not being rude or offensive.
