Embrace the Young at Heart

Immerse yourself in Human Living Book check out our "Living Books" and embrace the Young at Heart! Human Living Libraries facilitate one to one conversations with living books and the public.


What is the Human Living Library? 

The Human Living Library is designed to provide a positive environment that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue and interaction.

Five Living books will be available to borrow for 25 minutes. Each has a very different story to tell.  This is an amazing opportunity to learn about great people in our community such as:

Aunty Barbara - Aboriginal Elder of the stolen generation


Joe - Post WWII immigrant from Malta


Paddy - Vietnam veteran


Kathy - Carer of mum with Dementia


Sara - Lebanese Muslim grandma


Date: Saturday, 16th February 2019

Time: 9.30am to 2.30pm

The event will have free catering including finger food, dips, pita bread, cakes, pastries, soft drinks and tea/coffee.

What would you do if your home disappeared?

Ever wondered what it’s like to be homeless? Come and have a chat with people from Pearl Cove who have experienced homelessness and survived to tell the tale.



Event: Come over to my place!                                                                             
DuringHomelessness Week’ we are celebrating people from our community who have been homeless.

Living Books: Book in for a chat with one of our ‘Living Books’ to hear their stories about what it’s like to be homeless.

You’re allowed to ask questions: the aim of this event is to promote awareness and understanding, encourage open communication, and break down barriers and prejudice.

Let's Talk About Mental Health




October is Mental Health Month and in accordance Pearl Cove Library will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness Human Living Libraries event in which members of the Pearl Cove community will share their experience and expertise on the topic to promote greater understanding and awareness. 

Our speakers will have a focus on Indigenous Australians, homeless Australians, senior citizens and the LGBTQIA community.  

Come and share in this great opportunity to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and those it affects.
