Making your community a home - Meet your LGBTQ+ neighbours.

Have a talk with the folk that are putting an end to homelessness in our LGBTQ+ youth. Meet and check out our "Living Books" who will talk about their experience with LGBTQ+ homelessness and what we can do to reduce it's prevalence in our streets.
Tea and biscuits will be provided while you engage in conversation.

Meet our books:
Jay McGrath – Indigenous Australian who faced homelessness as a teen due to coming out as gay.
Amy Harper – Counsellor at twenty10, a Sydney based service that provides housing and counselling support for LGBT youth.
Noah White – head of the community homelessness outreach at Pearl Cove Community Centre
Miranda Noel – LGBT activist and volunteer at Pearl Cove Community Centre

Shake it up Pearl Cove (for Parkinson)

Pearl Cove Library is celebrating carers national week with an human living book event. Human living library is a library event where books are real people, they can loan to readers in certain amount of time inside the venue. The books often are volunteers from wise variety of backgrounds and they are generously offering to share their stories or experiences in the roles of caring or interact with people have Parkinson diseases.

The event aims to educate and raise awareness about carers and their caring roles for people with Parkinson diseases. It also help to make community connection, future development, identify gaps in skills and resource for anyone interested in the area.

Let's Talk About Mental Health




October is Mental Health Month and in accordance Pearl Cove Library will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness Human Living Libraries event in which members of the Pearl Cove community will share their experience and expertise on the topic to promote greater understanding and awareness. 

Our speakers will have a focus on Indigenous Australians, homeless Australians, senior citizens and the LGBTQIA community.  

Come and share in this great opportunity to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and those it affects.

We will be hosting a Human Living Libraries Event in which you will be able to “borrow” our incredible guests including Jenny Leong (MP) , Antoinette Braybrook and other amazing women so they can share their stories with you and answer questions.

Diets, Diabetes & Detectives - Borrow a Human Living Book - Free Event






We are holding a special event on World Diabetes Day

When:  14 November 2017


Time:  10.15 am ~ 12.45 pm


Where:  Pearl Cove Library, Main Library & in the Pearl Room


How it Works:  Readers will 'borrow' a Human Living Book in the library, for a 15 minute one-to-one conversation.






Diets, Diabetes & Detectives draws attention to our  Human Living Book event.  Our Living Books are women from our community with experience and stories to share, stories of living with diabetes.


There will be two types of books to read - one focused on detecting diabetes in unsuspecting people and the other is on developing healthy lifestyles as a preventative measure. Titles include 'How An Olympian Became A Diabetic', Early Detection Saved My Life', and 'Born Diabetic: A Gym Guide'.


Health professionals from the Diabetes Clinic will be here too, with information and resources for you to to investigate here in the library or take home.
