 Pearl Cove Library is holding a Human Library event to coincide with International Women's Day, 2022. The event is aimed at women who wish to seek equality within the workforce, and find some top tips from women who have succeeded and have broken barriers in this field. 

A Human Library consists of “books” that are human.  Each of the volunteers involved share their story in a Library as a Human Book.  People (readers) can rent out the books that they are interested in for a 20 minute period to find out more about their lives.

International Women's Day at Pearl Cove Library

This women's day, Pearl Cove library is proud to host an afternoon of conversations with women, who are strong advocates for their communities. 

Our Human Library event will provide an opportunity for one-on-one conversations with amongst others members of the LGBTQI+ and First Nations communities and social justice campaigners. Our five 'living book's will speak to their experiences of the intersection of womanhood, cultural identities, advocacy and social progress of reform. 

Join us this afternoon for a special opportunity to discuss how we can all address social issues impacting both women and all of our communities. 

One conversation lession lasts 20 min, multiple sessions available. 

Wheelchair accesible. All ages, everyone welcome.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, join this very first Human Library event hosted by the Pearl Cove Library.

For teenagers and young adults, however, the general public is welcomed.

What’s a Human Library?

In the Human Library, a book is a person that volunteered to represent a stigmatized group in the community. The books, based on their personal experiences, can answer questions from readers to help challenge what is being said/told/understood about a given topic.

What to anticipate on the day?

We invited 12 “books” to provide their experience on equality of opportunity. They offer different perspectives including that from the indigenous community, single parents, senior citizens, and equality right activists.

The borrowers will be able to “borrow” the book for 20-30 minutes. Have a conversation, ask questions, share experiences, challenge mindsets. The books are able to surrender to the agenda of the reader and allow them control of the conversation.
